The peer support services program works with hospitals and other community agencies to extend the expertise of people in recovery or who have a personal family experience with recovery, to those who are seeking support, encouragement, and guidance in finding appropriate services.
MAIN FUNCTIONS OF A RECOVERY COACH
Recovery Coaches are individuals with lived experience who are trained through a 30 hour Recovery Coach Academy to assist in removing barriers and obstacles to recovery and serve as a personal guide and mentor for people seeking or already in recovery. SVPC also requires that Recovery Coaches receive 12 hours of training in Ethical Considerations for Recovery Coaching. Recovery Coaches are employed by SVPC and adhere to the Code of Ethical Conduct set forth by The New York Certification Board as well as organizational policy and procedures developed by SVPC. If you are an individual who would like to work with a Recovery Coach, please call the Peer Engagement Specialist at (315) 713-4861.
Recovery Coaches are available to respond to emergency departments in St. Lawrence, Jefferson, and Lewis Counties as determined by a Memorandum of Understanding between the requesting emergency department and SVPC’s Peer Engagement Specialist. Days and times for on-call services will vary based on emergency department data and need for the services. A Recovery Coach can be called ONLY if the individual presenting to the emergency department consents to such services.
